LOS ANGELES: War epic 1917 shocked the Golden Globes on Sunday by claiming the top prize for best drama film, while Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood won the most honours.
1917 stole the show at the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards winning best drama as well as earning the directing honour for Sam Mendes. Martin Scorsese’s much-acclaimed Netflix crime saga “The Irishman” went home empty-handed.
“Goodness me, that is a big surprise,” said stunned filmmaker Sam Mendes, dedicating the film to his grandfather who signed up to fight aged just 17. “I hope he’s looking down on us and I fervently hope it never happens again.”

Brad Pitt won a Golden Globe for his work in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”

Meanwhile, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood picked up three honours, for best comedy as well as supporting actor for Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino for screenplay.
I also have to thank my partner in crime, LDC,” said Pitt. “I wouldn’t be here without you, man… I would have shared the raft, though,” he added, referring to the closing scene of Titanic.

British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge took home the Golden Globe for best actress in a TV comedy for “Fleabag”

Joaquin Phoenix won best actor in a drama for Joker, Renée Zellweger claimed best actress in a drama for Judy. Awkwafina won best actress in a comedy for The Farewell and Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite claimed the foreign-language film win.
In TV, HBO’s Succession nabbed the best drama series honour as well as a best actor win for Brian Cox. Amazon’s Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge won in the best actress category and claimed the best comedy series win.
Chernobyl also picked up multiple honours, for best limited series as well as for supporting actor Stellan Skarsgard.
The Globes are the first major awards gala of the year in a packed season that ends with the Academy Awards in just over a month’s time.
