RAWALPINDI: The Chief of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rahid has said that the present rulers wanted to divide the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) and repeat the history of 1997, however, they would fail in their designs.

His comments came after repeated efforts, reported across the board in print and electronic media, that the PDM-led government and their affiliated minds in lawyers fraternity and civil society demanded recusal of two judges from the bench hearing Suo Motu case of delay in elections in Punjab and KP following the dissolution of both provincial assemblies.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, the AML Chief said that the Supreme Court would establish the supremacy of constitution and law, and only after that the country would witness economic and financial stability. He further said that holding of elections in 90 days (after the dissolution of assemblies) was a red line set by the Constitution and Law.

Sheikh Rashid said the ruling coalition PDM should decide if it wanted to go for election or wanted to face accountability and punishment. He further said “it remains to be seen as to who is leading the country towards civil disobedience, and why?”

“If the courts are attacked this time, the attackers would know the lesson.” he said.

Sheikh Rashid said that the inflation rate had increased to 42% while on the other hand, the security squad of the Queen of Jhansi increased to 18 vehicles. “The poor has already defaulted, and the country is on the verge of being declared as bankrupt,” he said, adding that the entire nation was looking at the Supreme Court, and only a decision by the Apex court could now save the country.
