Massive protest to be held in IOK today

Salima Bhutto by Salima Bhutto
August 24, 2019
SRINAGAR: Hurriyat leaders have urged people to protest on streets against the Indian army’s moves and its illegal occupation of Kashmir.
Hurriyat leaders said, “Every person, young and old, men and women, should march after Friday prayers.”
A march will be held until the UN office. The protests will begin after Friday prayers. Protests are also scheduled to be held in Germany and France as well. In Brussels, the Kashmir Council Europe will be staging a protest.
Posters were pasted near mosques, informing people of the protests. One of the fly-posters said that the Indian government has planned to change the demographics of Kashmir.
The curfew in the occupied territory has entered its 19th day. Stores are shut, roads are empty and communication lines are still cut off.
Kashmiris are restricted from using cellphones, internet, and television. Indian Army soldiers have been stationed across the valley.
The area has been on locked down since 5th August, when India repealed Article 370 of its constitution and revoked the special status given to Kashmir. A curfew has been in place in the area ever since.
